How to translate the website

You'll get access to a set of .txt files. Each file has the following structure:

<lang_en>Hello</lang_en>
<lang_it>Ciao</lang_it>

... some stuff that doesn't need to be translated ...

<lang_en>Goodbye</lang_en>
<lang_it>Addio</lang_it>

etc etc

If you want to add a translation for e.g. French, open the .txt file with your favourite editor and add:

<lang_fr>...</lang_fr>

Below the <lang_it>Ciao</lang_it> line.

Caveats:

• Always update your local copy of the .txt files before committing the changes
• Do NOT wrap lines. Please wrap lines at the same lenght as the english version
• Do NOT modify the english version. Never.
• Check that your editor doesn't add any Byte Order Mark to the files:
  • There is useful information about BOM at: http://www.unicode.org/faq/utf_bom.html#BOM and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Byte_Order_Mark
  • You can use AkelPad Editor for editing files in Windows: http://akelpad.sourceforge.net/en/download.php It supports Unix and Windows new-line, many charsets including UTF-8. It's archive size is only 75 KB.

Encoding:

Please make sure that your environment is clean UTF-8. So until you don't see other languages in right encoding do NOT edited the file!

• In vi(m) type :set encoding=utf-8 and :set fileencodings=utf-8
• If you work with a terminal program like putty make sure that the charset is also set to UTF-8

Notifications

• Whenever a page of the website is modified, a notification is generated and sent to clamav-polyglot mailing list. All translators are subscribed to clamav-polyglot mailing list. You are encouraged to pay attention to such notifications and update the language you are maintaining as soon as possible. Thanks!

Managing the website .txt files via SVN

The SVN repository is available at: http://svn.clamav.net/svn/polyglot/

First time download of the .txt files

• Under UNIX: svn co http://svn.clamav.net/svn/polyglot/trunk
• Under Windows: point TortoiseSVN (http://tortoisesvn.tigris.org) to http://svn.clamav.net/svn/polyglot/

Subsequent downloads

• Under UNIX: cd trunk/ ; svn update
• Under Windows: use TortoiseSVN menu

Uploading your modifications

• Under UNIX: cd trunk/ ; svn commit
• Under Windows: use TortoiseSVN menu
